AIR – AI-based recommender for sustainable tourism development

The development of processes based on artificial intelligence is intended to equalize and manage visitor flows in the future. This will provide sustainable tourism with a further opportunity to identify any clusters of visitors that may arise and the resulting congestion of popular travel and excursion destinations at an early stage. Using the information, visitors can better rank their choice of destination of preference. For their part, destinations can identify alternative sites and manage visitor flows in a targeted manner.
The project is funded by the “AI Leuchttürme” program from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and has been running since January 1, 2022 and ends on December 31, 2024.

On 6 March 2022, the BMUV handed over the funding notification in Berlin. Dirk Schmücker and some of the project partners received the symbolic check:
